After checking out of our hotel and stashing our luggage at Gare de Lyon, we headed to Musée du Louvre. One last must see item on our to do list. It was pretty much a bust. One thing I always forget about is that museum maps are never really that useful. Yes, you can figure out which room you are in, but how do you navigate to something on the other side of the museum, like the Mona Lisa? Turns out it was in a different building, but you can’t tell that from the map. Once we finally found her, we couldn’t even see the painting. Or any of the other art for that matter. So many people were taking pictures. What do you need a picture of stuff at a museum for anyways? You can just buy a post card with the Mona Lisa on it and as an added bonus, there won’t be any other tourist heads in the picture!
The museum was really not enjoyable because of this. So after a long search for the three or four main things we wanted to see there, we headed outside. Again, many people, but a little more tolerable.
Dining at a little sidewalk cafe at the end of the Jardin des Tuileries, I managed to eat my monthly allotment of cheese. And not just any cheese. Really exceptional cheese. I believe it was ewe cheese. I ordered what was essentially an open faced sandwich of ham, chorizo, peppers, and ewe cheese. There was an abundance of cheese. And it was super good.
As I write this, we are headed on the night train to Rome, Italy. The views of the houses along the river and country side as the sun sets are exactly as I had imagined it. Calm, quiet, with an orange hue. In the background, the talkative Italians in the couchette down the way…
