I can’t stand New Years resolutions. It’s day nine, and I’ve pretty much broken all three of them.
- Work out more. I didn’t make it much farther than the couch on New Year’s day AND this has been on the list year after year, so why bother writing it down?
- Be more on time. This one I made after realizing I made it someplace on time.
- Blog more. Well, it’s January 9th, and I’m finally saying goodbye to 2009. I seriously considered backdating this post, but decided against it. ‘Nuff said.
So instead of resolutions, where I have to vow to fix something, I’m going to set some goals. Reasonable goals. Goals that can be modified throughout the year. Enough of this “resolving to fix” something on January 1st and completely forgetting about it by February. These will be about improving some aspect of my life, but not necessarily be about “fixing” something. Here they are:
- Improve my photography skills. This one is pretty subjective, so in an effort to do this, I will blog about a photo I have taken each month.
- Blog three times a month. #1 takes care of one of those times. #2 will be technical, management, or leadership focused. #3 will be life focused. And yes, this post counts as life focused.
- Workout enough in a month to get reimbursed by my health insurance. This only requires me to step inside the gym eight times a month (and “stepping in and walking out” does not count).
- Learn a second language. This goal applies to two areas of my life. A foreign language and a programming language. Wonder if I could learn a programming language in a foreign language and kill two birds with one stone?
- Take more risks. Again, also subjective. This is a difficult one for me, and includes things like learning a second language, travelling to a foreign country, dating, blogging, take on different and challenging responsibilities at work.
So watch for coming posts to check in on these goals!
Thanks for the MinnPics love. Makes the time spent worth it when I see a mention like this one!
