Was really wishing my Ford Fiesta-like car (an Opel Corsa) had those automatic fold-in mirrors like the Volvo I recently rode in. Laughed at the feature at the time, but would have come in handy driving down narrow roads this weekend. Wasn’t nearly as intimidating as I’d imagined it would be. Only a few close calls. I’m not sure I understand the reasoning behind restricting learner drivers (those sporting the “L” sticker on their car) from driving on motorways at 120kmph but allowing them to drive down these winding, narrow roads at 100kmph!
Made it to the Cliffs of Moher for a great Independence Day afternoon. Standard weather forecast: sun, clouds, rain, wind. And people. Lots of people. Note to self: Avoid tourist attractions on Saturday afternoons. I’m willing to bet that many of the people were Americans on vacation for the 4th of July holiday (I surely fell into that category). The awesome views of the cliffs more than made up for the large number of tourists. One area, private property actually, is restricted from tourists, where people lay on their stomachs at the edge to look down. And sometimes fall down… to their deaths. I was having none of that.
After the Cliffs, I made my way (the long way, an accidental detour) through the interior of the Burren, from Lisdoonvarna to Ballyvaughn and then back along the coast. In Ballyvaughn, passed by these horses and cows grazing by the edge of Galway Bay.
